[Event Report] One-Year Anniversary Celebration

Autumn was in the air on Saturday evening as coaches from all over metro Tokyo gathered to mark the first year since our ICF Tokyo Chapter was officially established.

Roppongi Kina, the stylish venue located within the towering edifice of Roppongi T-Cube, proved to be the perfect spot for this memorable occasion.

Chapter President Anthony Clucas started off the evening with a toast to congratulate us all on a great year, noting the special events we have hosted, such as the addresses by Joan King, Konishi Nao & Shimamura Takeshi, and our series of general meetings focused on the ICF Core Competencies.

As the evening got underway and while the restaurant’s scrumptious dishes were gradually consumed and empty glasses were quickly replenished, Steering Committee member Araki Susumu led an ice-breaker that soon had everyone rubbing shoulders and sharing how to effect change in each other’s lives.

Having successfully ignited this very coach-like atmosphere, the talk and conversation amongst the 30 members scattered about the room took off in earnest, no doubt spiced with a good dose of powerful questions and active listening.

Next, Dr. Katherine Holt, our guest speaker for the evening, offered up some tasty and valuable bites of wisdom from her Coach Salons.

The pointers and anecdotes drawn from her years of coaching experience wonderfully illustrated the importance of core coaching skills and their application by leaders, cautioned us to be aware of signs that might indicate coaching assignments in danger of derailment, and shared techniques that help to achieve successful outcomes.

As her menu for the night had promised, Katherine’s words provided everyone with a nourishing meal for our contemplation.

And as the dinner reluctantly drew to a close, we could all look forward to an exciting year ahead as the ICF Tokyo Chapter launches its second year of service for the coaches and the broader community of the region.

[Upcoming Event] One-Year Anniversary Celebration

ICF Tokyo Chapter One-Year Anniversary Celebration, Saturday, September 12

Hi Everyone!

This is a reminder that you are invited to join us in celebrating the one-year anniversary of the ICF Tokyo Chapter. We've had a terrific year of fellowship and growth, as the chapter has welcomed such special guests as Takeshi Shimamura and Nao Konishi, the creators of the "Wind from the East" presentation that received such acclaim at the 2008 ICF annual conference, and hosted general meetings that focused on members' interest in learning more about the 11 ICF Core Competencies. Come and enjoy both the great food and a warm, casual atmosphere conducive to making new connections and looking to the future for the ICF Tokyo Chapter.

Our very special guest speaker will be Dr. Katherine Holt, and the title of her talk is "Tasty Bites of Coach Salon Wisdom."

Dr. Holt worked for Personnel Decisions International (PDI) for 16 years prior to establishing her own firm. She managed PDI's office in Tokyo from 1994-2000 and was widely recognized as one of the top executive coaches in Asia-Pacific during those years. She served on ASTD's board of directors from 2000-2002, where she chaired the strategic directions committee. She received ASTD's Gordon Bliss Memorial Award for lifetime achievement in 2005. She is deeply committed to collaborative learning as a member of the Society for Organizational Learning (SOL) and the Association for Managers of Innovation (AMI).

Dr Holt will be holding her Coach Salon here in Tokyo this month. Please check out the attached flyer for details.

Looking forward to seeing you there,
Tokyo Chapter Steering Committee
